SAAM Towage has christened the tug SAAM Petrel in Arica, Chile, where it will support port operations. The vessel has 80-tonne bollard pull, meets IMO Tier III emissions standards and is the first tug in SAAM’s Chilean fleet to do so.

Naval Group has cut steel on the first FDI frigate for the Royal Swedish Navy, the Luleå, at its Lorient yard. The ship is the first of four frigates ordered by Sweden on 31 August 2026, with delivery scheduled for 2030.

Contships Logistics has launched a Chinese newbuilding programme for up to 30 feeder container ships through its subsidiary CLC Newbuildings. The first tranche covers 10 confirmed 1,300 teu vessels at Hubei Guangji Green Energy Shipbuilding Group, with two further batches of 10 options each.
MSC World Atlantic floated out at Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, after construction began with a steel-cutting ceremony in March 2025. The 215,863-gross-ton ship is due for delivery in 2027 and is scheduled to debut on 13 Nov 2027 from Port Canaveral, Florida.
Top Ships Inc. has completed the acquisition of three special-purpose vehicles holding shipbuilding contracts for three high-specification ECO, scrubber-fitted MR product tankers. The SPVs are tied to an established shipbuilder, with deliveries due in 2029, and the vessels already have five-year time charters with an oil major starting on delivery.
Vietnam Shiprepair completed the repair of a deformed deck crane working platform on a feeder container vessel at Cai Mep Port after a container struck it during loading and unloading. The yard said the work complied with IACS class requirements and IMO guidelines, and was finished by certified welders and fitters without disrupting cargo operations or the vessel’s schedule.
Explora Journeys has signed a letter of intent with Dutch builder Den Breejen Shipyard for a fleet of river cruise ships, the brand's first move into the river market. The agreement was announced on 25 September 2026, as the MSC Group brand said the new vessels will focus on Europe.
Samsung Heavy Industries has won an order for two very large gas carriers from a Bermuda-based shipowner. The contract is worth 307.4 billion won, or about $226.4 million, with delivery due by the end of February 2030. The yard said the deal lifted its 2026 commercial vessel orders to 44 ships worth $7.5 billion.
Zodiac Maritime has been identified as the buyer of two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers at South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean, in its first move into conventional LNG shipping. The contract, signed on 23 Sep 2026, is worth KRW680bn for the two firm ships and includes options for two more of the same size.
RCL has ordered four more container ships from CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, working with China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd (CSTC). The contract was signed on 29 Sep 2026 and follows Huangpu Wenchong’s recent 1,900 TEU order from Erasmus Shipinvest.
