Ray Car Carriers has signed a contract with Guangzhou Shipyard International for ten newbuild vessels in a deal valued at about $1 billion, according to Splash. The Cyprus-based owner and operator specialises in pure car and truck carriers and has been expanding its fleet as demand for vehicle transport rises.
Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has signed a contract with German shipowner Peter Döhle for two 14,000 TEU container ships. The deal was signed on 1 September 2026 at the SMM Hamburg exhibition in Germany, with CSSC Trading Co., Ltd. alongside the yard.
MSC has ordered 20 LNG-dual-fuel ultra-large container vessels from Hengli Heavy Industries and Zhoushan Changhong International in China. The package is valued at about USD 4.4 billion, with Hengli set to build 10 additional 22,000 TEU ships and take its MSC tally to 22 vessels.
Ardmore Shipping has exercised its final two options at Wuhu Shipyard, completing a six-vessel newbuilding programme for product and chemical tankers valued at about $269 million. The latest pair are 40,500 dwt handysize tankers, contracted on terms similar to the four ships already ordered. No further options remain on the series.
Vietnam Ship Repair published a 2026 ranking of the five largest container shipping companies by capacity and fleet size. MSC tops the list with about 7.3 million TEU and about 1,000 ships, followed by Maersk, CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping and Hapag-Lloyd.
PaxOcean opened its new S$200 million shipyard at 5 Jalan Samulun in Singapore on 6 February 2026. The 17.26-hectare yard replaces its Tuas Crescent site and includes two graving docks, one floating dock and expanded quayside capacity.
PaxOcean Zhoushan Shipyard named Hull H1053, PAC LEO, the second 40,000-deadweight-tonne multi-purpose vessel built for Pacific Carriers Limited, on 27 January 2026. The ship follows PAC LIBRA, Hull H1052, and is part of PCL’s fleet renewal programme.
PaxOcean Zhoushan Shipyard named Hull H1052, PAC LIBRA, on 20 November 2025. The 40,000-deadweight-tonne multi-purpose vessel is the first in Pacific Carriers Limited’s new series and was developed jointly by PaxOcean and PCL.
PaxOcean Zhoushan has delivered Martta, Hull No. H1039, to Finland-based Langh Ship. The container feeder is the third vessel in a three-ship programme, following Ingrid and Lene earlier this year.
PaxOcean chief executive Tan Thai Yong said the yard’s big-ship order book now runs to the end of 2028 after the group signed another four tankers last week. He also said the shipyard has capacity for smaller vessels, but slots for larger ships remain tight because of engine availability.
Solent University has hired a lecturer specialising in sustainability for its yacht and superyacht design courses, as the Southampton school prepares a revised Master’s programme. Giles Barkley said the new version will place more emphasis on designing for a sustainable future. The course currently takes about six students a year.
Estaleiro Mauá in Niterói received a Chinese delegation this week, the first stop on a visit to Brazilian shipyards. The yard said the visit followed federal talks with China under BRICS and that some technical and institutional feasibility terms were signed on 5 July.
