BAAS Shipping has ordered two 1,200 TEU feeder container ships from Qingdao Yangfan Shipbuilding, according to TradeWinds. The unit price is about US$34 million, putting the contract value at around US$68 million. The order adds to a run of feeder container ship contracts placed with Chinese yards in recent months.
Alpha Bulkers is planning to order two Newcastlemax bulk carriers from Hengli Heavy Industry, according to shipbrokers and market sources. Delivery dates and construction prices have not been disclosed. If confirmed, the deal would extend a relationship that began in May 2026 with two Capesize bulk carriers.
Capital Tankers has secured an option from parent Capital Maritime & Trading to buy 13 newly built oil tankers at the original contract prices. The option fleet includes 11 VLCCs at Hengli Heavy Industries and two Suezmax tankers at HD Hyundai Samho, with deliveries due from the fourth quarter of 2027 to the third quarter of 2028.
Dorian LPG has ordered three 90,000-cbm dual-fuel Panamax very large gas carriers from Hanwha Ocean in a deal worth about $345 million. The ships are due in June, September and December 2030 and will be able to run on LPG or conventional low-sulphur fuel.
HD Hyundai Chairman Chung Ki-sun attended the naming ceremony for the ammonia-propelled midsize gas carriers Adinkerke and Aalter at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ yard in Ulsan on 25 August 2026. The vessels were built for Belgian shipowner Exmar, which also received the earlier ammonia-propelled carriers Antwerpen and Arlon from the same yard in April.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen has taken delivery of Arctic Tern, the first vessel in its new Shaper Class series. The dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier will trade through EUKOR Car Carriers on Asia-Europe routes and enter service immediately. The ship was ordered in March 2022 from K Shipbuilding and is due to undergo its first methanol bunkering shortly after commercial operations begin.
SAL Heavy Lift and Wuhu Shipyard signed a memorandum of understanding on 3 September 2026 for five additional 14,600 DWT multipurpose heavy-lift vessels. The deal was announced at SMM 2026 in Hamburg and would extend a partnership that has already delivered the Orca Class series.
Suisse-Atlantique Group S.A has ordered two 40,500 dwt open-hatch, box-shaped vessels at Jiangmen Nanyang Shipyard (JNS). No price or individual delivery dates were disclosed. The pair lifts Suisse-Atlantique’s total orderbook at JNS to seven vessels, alongside five 64,400 dwt ultramax bulk carriers already placed there.
Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has secured an order for two firm cruise ships and three options from Norway’s Nor Cruises. The deal was announced at the SMM 2026 maritime trade fair in Shanghai. No details have been disclosed yet on the vessels’ size, specifications or delivery schedule.
Ray Car Carriers has signed a contract with Guangzhou Shipyard International for ten newbuild vessels in a deal valued at about $1 billion, according to Splash. The Cyprus-based owner and operator specialises in pure car and truck carriers and has been expanding its fleet as demand for vehicle transport rises.
Navantia UK has laid the keel of RFA Resurgent at its Appledore shipyard in North Devon, formally starting assembly of the first of three Fleet Solid Support ships for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. The milestone came with the lowering of the first block in Appledore’s dry dock and the placement of a commemorative coin beneath the section for good fortune.
Sail Lanka hosted the BELGOLUX Economic Mission to Sri Lanka aboard its catamaran Ocean Diamond in June, with diplomatic representatives and ambassadors from Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the European Union and Sri Lanka attending.
