ASTICAN said its shipbuilding teams include employees at the start of their careers alongside colleagues with more than five decades of experience. The yard said the mix of younger staff and veteran workers helps combine fresh ideas, technical knowledge and long-term decision-making.
Alimia Shipyards Group used Posidonia 2026 in Athens to present the combined offer of ASTICAN in the Canary Islands, ASTANDER in Santander and ASTIBAL in Panama. The group said the show was also used to meet clients and partners and discuss sustainability, energy transition and technology trends.
ASTICAN has been recognised in the Wellbeing and Health category at the 2026 Canary Islands Excellence in Human Resources Awards. The yard said the award reflects initiatives over the past year including cancer detection campaigns, cardiovascular risk checks, hydration and sun-protection campaigns, a step challenge and mental health workshops.
Astican said its shipyard and Deepwater Quay are set up to handle ship repair and offshore work across a range of vessel types and project sizes. The yard pointed to controlled draught quay space, specialist workshops and heavy-lift capacity at ADQ as the main parts of that setup.
Astander is part of CAPCO2, a maritime carbon-capture project that has produced a fully functional pilot plant after two years of research and development. The consortium says the system was designed to reproduce ship operating conditions on land and to support later fleet-scale deployment.
Astander has joined the ASTILLERO SOSTENIBLE consortium, a PERTE Naval project focused on waste treatment, water purification and emissions reduction in shipyards. The project will produce 10 outputs, including technical reports, software tools and pilot implementations, and Astander will host trials on emissions monitoring, waste characterisation and dredging operations.
Astander has joined the ASTILLERONEUTROC consortium, a Spanish naval-sector study focused on climate neutrality and decarbonisation. The project will examine emissions across shipyards, supply chains and ship operations, and produce a sector roadmap with nine outputs.
