La Ciotat Shipyards has installed its first photovoltaic panels on the roof of the Nef A annex, where 189 m² are already producing an average of 260 kWh a day. The yard has also launched a tender for a 2,000 m² rooftop solar array on Nef B, with work due to start in November 2026, and plans another 2,000 m² on Nef C.
Chalkis Shipyards hosted Greece’s minister of maritime affairs and insular policy, Vasilis Kikilias, at its site in Chalkida on 16 July. The visit included a tour of the yard, a briefing on operations and infrastructure, and a look at the yard’s new largest dry dock.
Astilleros San Enrique’s director, José Luis Torres, spoke at O Encontro da Toxa on 16 July and pointed to the yard’s work on offshore structures and a marine photovoltaic platform as examples of its role in the energy transition. He said the yard is involved in Europe’s largest marine solar platform, developed with BlueNewables and Naturgy and now in testing at the Port of Valencia.
MB92 Group has published its fifth industry report on how data, artificial intelligence and connected systems are changing yacht refit and operations. The yard said the biggest shift will come from “connected intelligence” rather than any single technology, with reliable data, interoperability, skills and cybersecurity needed to make it work.
Alexandria Shipyard Co. handed over the second tugboat in its two-vessel order for the Suez Canal Authority, the 190-ton Ismailia 2. The yard said the vessel was built in Egypt and delivered under a contract for two 190-ton relieving tugs, each 71.6 m long, 18.5 m wide and 7 m draft.
Bollinger Shipyards has opened a 7,200-square-foot Workforce Training Center at its Gulfport, Mississippi, facility. The yard said the center, developed with the Submarine Industrial Base Program Office and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, will begin bootcamp-style classes in Fall 2026.
Astilleros San Enrique will start a specialist training programme in naval boilermaking and piping in September, aimed at unemployed people with no previous experience. The yard said the scheme will be run with Formavigo, part of the Tesol group, under the Xunta de Galicia’s Galicia Suma Talento 2026-2029 programme.
CMN hosted several seconde students from 15 to 26 June for an observation placement at its shipyard, and later received UIMM Manche and 28 trainees for a tour of its workshops. Three young people then joined CMN under the “Tu as ta place” scheme.
ASTICAN said its shipbuilding teams include employees at the start of their careers alongside colleagues with more than five decades of experience. The yard said the mix of younger staff and veteran workers helps combine fresh ideas, technical knowledge and long-term decision-making.
Concordia Damen said the workboat Zeeleeuw has completed sea trials and is ready to join the fleet of Van der Straaten Aannemingsmaatschappij B.V. The 30 x 8 metre vessel has a hybrid propulsion system and is certified to ES-TRIN, with approval for ADN convoy operations.
Rear Admiral Matthew Stratton visited Navantia UK’s Appledore yard in North Devon last week for an update on the Fleet Solid Support programme, the yard’s modernisation and the LASV75 concept. Appledore is building the bow sections of three Royal Fleet Auxiliary supply ships, with final assembly, systems integration and testing due in Belfast.
Cantiere delle Marche has appointed Filippo D. Buonpensiere as sales manager. The yard said he has spent the past six years at the company and recently completed a degree at IUM Monaco while combining study with an internship in Monaco and six months at a London-based institution.
