La Ciotat Shipyards held its first Matinée de l’Emploi on 27 June, drawing more than 500 candidates to meet companies working in yacht maintenance and refit. The event was organised with around 30 specialist schools and local employment bodies ahead of the September refit season.
Rear Admiral Guillaume Delaroche visited CMN on Friday with a delegation including officials from the French maritime administration, the CPPE and the DGA. The yard said the visit covered its current projects, industrial activities and discussion of maritime safety and military verification for vessels under construction.
Costas Kadis, the European commissioner for fisheries and oceans, and Catherine Chabaud, France’s minister delegate for the sea and fisheries, visited CMN’s Cherbourg site on 29 June. The yard showed them a fishing-vessel project and the FloWatt tidal power programme, which includes six HydroQuest turbines to be built in Cherbourg.

Kishorn Port said about 1 million tonnes of rock have been blasted and moved over the past 12 months as Phase 1A of its expansion moves into its final stages. The project remains on track for completion in autumn 2026, with the extended dry dock and reclaimed foreshore now visible.
ASTICAN has received the Gold Medal of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, one of the city’s highest distinctions. President Germán Suárez collected the award at the official Honours and Distinctions ceremony on 26 June 2026.
Astilleros San Enrique completed the first loading operation for the BalWin2 project for Dragados Offshore on 19 June, moving 204 tonnes of structural panels fabricated at its Vigo yard. The work follows completion earlier this year of the first contract between the two companies, BalWin1.
Kishorn Port and Lairg hosted a visit from Northern Lighthouse Board coastal inspectors Jennifer Matthews and Adam Lewis last week. The pair toured the site, including the expanded dry dock and lay-down area, after meeting the port at a conference earlier this year.
Sata Shipbuilding has started construction of the first Arctic Security Cutter icebreaker for the United States Coast Guard in Pori. The first two vessels in the five-ship program will be built at Helsinki Shipyard with Sata support, with delivery of the first ship due in 2028.
Concordia Damen has delivered the Century Star to Century Cruises, the first river cruise ship the China-based operator has commissioned for the European market. The vessel is the first of three sister ships and will start sailing on the Danube in September 2026 before Rhine itineraries follow later.
Derecktor Dania Beach said two recent projects at its Dania shipyard showed how early planning affects yard periods. One was M/Y Carson, managed by Jim Rosenberg, which included a 10-year class survey, major engine service, driveline rebuilds and more than 50 work items; the other was a 180-foot yacht support vessel whose scope kept changing before arrival.
Kenya closed the 11th Our Ocean Conference in Mombasa after President William Ruto said the country had made commitments worth $1.1bn for the blue economy. The three-day meeting was the first Our Ocean Conference held in Africa, and Kenya handed hosting duties for 2027 to Canada.
