CMN has taken on 33 new alternants for the 2026 intake, adding them to the 22 apprentices already at the yard. That brings the total to 55 young people in training at the shipbuilder as of 1 September 2026, more than 10% of CMN’s workforce. Their programmes range from CAP to engineering degree level.
CMN said engineering student Nour Albagoury represented the group at the European Defense Tech Hackathon from 3 to 6 July. He built an AI system in two days that can detect, track and intercept airborne drones with minimal computing power, and the jury backed it unanimously.
CMN hosted several seconde students from 15 to 26 June for an observation placement at its shipyard, and later received UIMM Manche and 28 trainees for a tour of its workshops. Three young people then joined CMN under the “Tu as ta place” scheme.
CMN has baptised and launched the fishing trawler Saint-Paul Gilbert at Cherbourg after the vessel arrived unfinished in June 2025. The ship is now entering trials, with delivery to the client scheduled for the end of July if tests go as planned.
Rear Admiral Guillaume Delaroche visited CMN on Friday with a delegation including officials from the French maritime administration, the CPPE and the DGA. The yard said the visit covered its current projects, industrial activities and discussion of maritime safety and military verification for vessels under construction.
Costas Kadis, the European commissioner for fisheries and oceans, and Catherine Chabaud, France’s minister delegate for the sea and fisheries, visited CMN’s Cherbourg site on 29 June. The yard showed them a fishing-vessel project and the FloWatt tidal power programme, which includes six HydroQuest turbines to be built in Cherbourg.
CMN hosted a delegation from the Communauté d’Agglomération du Cotentin on 27 April for a visit to its yard in Cherbourg. The talks focused on the FloWatt tidal project, which will use six HQ 2.8 turbines in the Raz Blanchard, with CMN to fabricate the structures.
CMN Group will recruit for 26 apprenticeship openings at the Objectif Alternance forum on 18 March at La Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. The roles span production, technical, logistics, QSE and communications functions, with several posts carrying multiple vacancies.
