New Dry Dock
Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) is a Government of India owned shipyard, incorporated in 1972 and operating under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, that builds and repairs commercial and defence vessels and offshore structures. Its main yard at Kochi has three dry docks, including a new large dry dock inaugurated in January 2024, and the company states it is the only shipyard in India able to build vessels up to 110,000 DWT and repair ships up to 125,000 DWT. Alongside shipbuilding and ship repair, CSL runs the Marine Engineering Training Institute (METI), a NABL-accredited materials testing laboratory, and four ship repair units plus two subsidiaries across India's south, west and east coasts.

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) is a Miniratna Category 1 central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, incorporated in 1972 as a wholly owned Government of India company. Conceived in 1969 as India's first greenfield shipbuilding yard and built under technical collaboration with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan, the yard began shipbuilding in 1978, ship repair in 1981/82, marine engineering training in 1993 and offshore upgradation in 1999. CSL is certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 27001:2022, and applies the Japanese Integrated Hull Outfitting and Painting (IHOP) system in new construction.
Services
- Shipbuilding, including design and development; capability stated up to 110,000 DWT

- Marine engineering training through METI, including the 12-month Graduate Mechanical Engineers (GME) course, plus basic and advanced firefighting and first aid courses
- Central Laboratory services: mechanical and chemical testing, non-destructive testing, oil and fuel analysis, ultrasonic thickness gauging (NABL accredited to ISO/IEC 17025)
