Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works
Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Limited (KS&EW) is Pakistan's sole shipyard and, by its own account, the country's largest industrial engineering complex, established in 1956 and operating under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence Production with the Chief of Naval Staff as board chairman. The yard builds naval and commercial vessels up to 26,000 DWT, constructs Hangor Class submarines, and repairs and refurbishes naval and merchant ships using dry docks, quay walls and a Syncrolift ship lift and transfer system. It also runs a heavy general engineering division for barrage and dam gates, cranes, structural fabrication, machining and foundry work, plus a material testing laboratory and a technical training school. The facility is located at West Wharf, Dockyard Road, Karachi.

Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Limited (KS&EW) was established in 1956 and describes itself as the sole shipyard of Pakistan and the largest industrial engineering complex in the country. It is an autonomous body under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence Production, with a Board of Directors headed by the Chief of Naval Staff. The yard is certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 as an Integrated Management System through Lloyd's Register, UK, and shipbuilding projects are surveyed by classification societies including CCS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas and Türk Loydu. It is also stated to be an OGRA authorised manufacturer and an ASME-approved company.
Services
- Shipbuilding of naval and commercial vessels up to 26,000 DWT (over 500 vessels built to date)
- Submarine construction, including Hangor Class submarines for the Pakistan Navy and earlier Agosta-90B work
- Ship repair, rebuilding and overhaul, above and underwater; over 5,000 vessels repaired including 430 foreign flag carriers
- Heavy general engineering: dam and barrage gates, cranes and lifting equipment (3–100 tons), steel structural fabrication, machining, foundry products
- Material testing laboratory: mechanical, physical, chemical, NDT, welder qualification and instrument calibration to BS/ASTM/JIS standards
- Shipyard Training School with NAVTTC, STEVTA and SBTE affiliations, TÜV Rheinland and TAKAMOL accreditation
