Rivergate Marina and Shipyard has marked 20 years since the project was launched on Brisbane’s former industrial riverfront at Murarrie. The yard said the site began as a $150 million greenfield development and has since grown into a superyacht refit base that has handled more than 150 superyachts in its first decade and hundreds more since.
Rivergate Marina and Shipyard marked its 20th anniversary with a VIP industry dinner on 20 May at Mamasan restaurant in Broadbeach. Co-owners Judy Brinsmead AM, Bob Hill and Tom Hill hosted guests including tenants, captains, suppliers and supporters. Brinsmead said the yard opened in 2006 after six years of planning and construction.

Incat chairman Robert Clifford said Tasmania is well placed to capture demand for large electric ferries after returning from the Shippax Conference in Genoa. He pointed to the yard’s Hull 096, the world’s largest battery-electric ship, and its deliveries for a Danish operator as evidence of growing interest in lightweight electric shipbuilding.
Birdon has signed a $125 million contract with the Australian Army to design and build one prototype and 15 Amphibious Vehicles – Logistics (AV-L). The vehicles will be built at Birdon’s yard in Port Macquarie for the Land 8710 Littoral Manoeuvre Program, replacing the Army’s LARC-V fleet.
Birdon said it secured an $18.3m contract from Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration to deliver 15 Bridge Erection Boats, and it also won a 20-year deal to design, build, operate and maintain the new Daintree River Ferry in Australia. The company said production began on two prototype ASC-M landing craft for the US Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory, while build-out of 27 Waterways Commerce Cutters for the US Coast Guard is under way.
Strategic Marine has delivered two 40m, 550-passenger low-emission catamaran ferries to the Government of Bermuda ahead of schedule and within budget. The yard said the vessels were secured through a two-year global tender and are intended for Bermuda’s public transport and cruise tourism services.
The Spirit of Tasmania V has left Rauma Shipyard for Tasmania, months after being delivered to TT-Line Company PTY Ltd in June. The 212-m RoPax ferry was built for the Bass Strait service between Geelong and Devonport and is the second of two Spirit of Tasmania ferries completed at Rauma.
Rivergate Marina and Shipyard will send director of international business Stephen Bay and marketing manager Alex Binks to the Monaco Yacht Show 2025 from 24-27 September. The yard will be on the South Pacific Stand, QA1, Quai Antoine IER.
Rivergate Marina & Shipyard completed a full exterior refit of the Kelly Peterson 46 Wasabi 1 after the job expanded from annual maintenance into a larger project. The yacht was hauled out, worked on for eight months and returned to the water before heading to her Scarborough Marina base.
Rivergate Marina and Shipyard used a June 15 post to market its maintenance and refit services to superyachts cruising Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora and the Marquesas. The piece names the South Pacific islands and says many yachts coordinate technical stops with Rivergate while moving through the Pacific.
Work Boat World has named Oma Baatbyggeri’s newbuild no. 545, FOB SWATH 10, its Best SWATH Crewboat for 2021. The Australian magazine made the award in its annual prizes, and the vessel was described as a 33-metre all-aluminium SWATH crewboat with four 1,200kW MAN diesels and waterjets.
