Bulyard Shipbuilding Industry EAD is a shipyard in Varna, Bulgaria, describing itself as the country's largest shipbuilding and ship repair enterprise. It carries out ship repair, conversion, newbuilding and steel construction for vessels up to 100,000 DWT, including tankers, bulk carriers, container ships and LPG carriers. The yard occupies around 305,000 m2 in the South Industrial Zone of Varna port, with two graving docks and eight repair berths. It is part of Industrial Holding Bulgaria AD and holds ISO 9001:2015 certification from Bureau Veritas for ship design, repair and shipbuilding.

Bulyard Shipbuilding Industry EAD

Bulyard Shipbuilding Industry EAD is a Varna-based shipyard established on 26.03.2004, which acquired the assets of the former Varna shipyard whose origins date to 1907. The yard states it is the largest shipbuilding and ship repair enterprise in Bulgaria by production volume and vessel size, having built more than 850 ships for owners from over 27 countries. It forms part of Industrial Holding Bulgaria AD and is managed by a Board of Directors headed by Chairman Plamen Dimitrov, with Sasho Dobrev as Executive Director.

  • Grit blasting up to SA2.5, high-pressure fresh water jetting and painting of hulls, decks, cargo holds and tanks

  • Overhaul of main and auxiliary engines, turbine plants, boilers, compressors and pumps
  • Pipeline and valve renewal; electric motor and generator overhaul
  • Cargo gear and safety equipment repair, testing and certification; cargo crane certification
  • Ultrasonic thickness measurement and non-destructive testing (ultrasonic, magnetic particle, dye penetrant)
  • New construction and design, with section, block and system design via IHB Shipdesign AD
  • Steel volume blocks and metal structures up to 16 m x 32 m and up to 750 t total tonnage

Facilities

  • Large Graving Dock: 237 m x 40 m, depth 5.5 m, 4 x 80 t cranes and 1 x 800 t crane
  • Small Graving Dock: 190 m x 28 m, depth 4.5 m, 4 x 80 t cranes and 1 x 500 t crane
  • Repair berths numbered 0 to 7, ranging from 60 m to 210 m in length and 5.30 m to 7.00 m depth, with cranes from 5 t to 80 t
  • Quays supplied with fresh water, salt water, air and electricity (220V/380V, 60 kW)
  • Blasting and painting: washing up to 500 bar, water jetting to 2000 bar, compressed air 450 cbm/min at 8 bar; paints from Chugoku, Hempel, International, Jotun, KCC and Sigma
  • Approved WPS for steel grades A32–EH36, 3–60 mm; certified welders; steel and profile bending; shop priming
