Hanwha Ocean has signed a contract with Taiwan’s Yang Ming Marine Transport for six 13,650-TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships worth about 1.55 trillion won. The vessels will be built at Geoje and delivered sequentially through the second half of 2029. The order follows Yang Ming’s first deal with the yard a year earlier and came two days after Hanwha Ocean booked a separate gas carrier order worth 477.8 billion won.
Chinese shipyards took 57.8% of global liquefied natural gas carrier orders in the first half of 2026, according to industry data cited by iMarine. The shift has raised concern in South Korea, where Hyundai Heavy Industries, Samsung Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean have long dominated the high-value LNG carrier market.
Hanwha Shipping has taken delivery of its first VLCC tanker, Elandra K2, from Hanwha Ocean’s Okpo Shipyard in South Korea. The 320,000 DWT vessel is registered in the Marshall Islands and will go on charter to Vitol; AIS data showed it at Khor Fakkan anchorage in the UAE.
