Tosmare Shipyard, operating under the LZK / Liepaja Northern Shipyard name, is a ship repair, shipbuilding and conversion yard in the non-freezing port of Liepaja on Latvia's Baltic coast. Founded in 1900 as the ship-repair workshops of the military port of Libau, it repairs around 60-70 seagoing vessels per year, builds steel hulls from fishing trawlers up to cargo vessels, and fabricates steel constructions. Facilities include two dry docks, a floating dock of 3,500 tonnes lifting capacity and three repair berths totalling more than 550 metres. The yard is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 and works in accordance with IACS requirements.

Tosmare Shipyard

Tosmare Shipyard, trading as LZK (Liepaja Northern Shipyard), is one of the oldest shipyards in the Baltic Sea region, founded in 1900 as the ship-repair workshops of the military port of Libau (Liepaja) and for many years a main repair base for the Navy fleet in the Baltic. Today it works as a partner to shipowners in ship repair, shipbuilding, conversions and metal structure fabrication, offering 24-hour service seven days a week. The yard holds ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certification, operates an HSEQ management system, carries out work in line with IACS requirements, and its Quality Management System and Factory Production Control have been approved by the Maritime Administration of Latvia for execution of steel and aluminium structures. Stated business partners include Wagenborg Shipping B.V. (Netherlands), AS Wilson Ship Management (Norway) and RIX Shipmanagement SIA (Latvia).

Services

  • Repair of some 60-70 seagoing vessels per year, plus conversions of a wide range of vessel types
  • Newbuilding of steel hulls, hulls with partial outfitting and turnkey vessels for Scandinavian and European customers
  • Hull anticorrosive treatment: high pressure washing, sand blasting to SA 2.5, mechanical treatment and marine coating of cargo holds, ballast and fuel oil tanks
  • Shaft, propeller and rudder system repair, including build-up and machining of shafts up to 16 m, bronze bush prefabrication and shaft seal renewal
  • Ballast water treatment system (BWTS) installation; piping systems, including non-ferrous and galvanized pipes; valve overhaul
  • Engines, generators, deck machinery, boilers, compressors, pumps, turbochargers and governors
  • Electrical installation, ship's automation, motor rewinding, hatch covers and hydraulic systems
  • Production of steel constructions

  • Dry Dock No.2: 220 m x 26 m, max draft 8 m, cranes 2 x 32 t and 1 x 16 t
  • Floating dock: 119 m x 19 m, max draft 6 m, SWL 3,500 t, cranes 1 x 5 t and 1 x 40 t
  • Three repair berths totalling over 550 m, with electricity, fresh water, gas oxygen, compressed air and shore cranes up to 32 t
  • Two building workshops for pre-assembly of sections and blocks up to 50 t; final assembly, zinc metalizing, painting and outfitting in dry dock
