Orient Shipyard & Engineering Co., Ltd. is a ship repair and conversion yard based at Gamcheon Port in Busan, South Korea, established in 1995. It operates two floating docks and six repair berths, handling vessels up to 50,000 DWT (handymax class) for dry-docking, afloat repairs, voyage repairs and emergency breakdown support. Work covers hull and steel structures, blasting and painting, main engine and machinery, propellers, shafts and rudders, piping and electrical systems, plus conversion projects such as AMP, BWTS and scrubber installation. The company holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications and an RMRS certificate, and records 1,013 ship repair and conversion projects between 2004 and 2026.

Orient Shipyard & Engineering Co., Ltd. has specialised in ship repair since its establishment in 1995 as Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., adopting the Orient Shipyard name in 2001 and its current name in 2025. Based at Busan's Gamcheon Port, it describes itself as the only shipyard there operating two floating docks, serving vessels up to 50,000 DWT. The yard reports 1,013 ship repair and conversion projects between 2004 and 2026 and works to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified management systems, along with an RMRS (Russian Maritime Register of Shipping) certificate obtained in 2023.

Facilities

  • FD-1 floating dock: 210 m LOA, max. 30,000 TLC (50,000 DWT), 15.60 m submerging draft, 15 t and 8 t cranes
  • FD-2 floating dock: 135 m LOA, max. 7,500 TLC (12,500 DWT), 12.80 m submerging draft, 12 t tower crane with 70 m boom (completed 2017)
  • Six repair berths with a total quay length of 595 m (250 m + 210 m + 135 m)
  • Berth utilities: 440V/380V/220V, 60Hz, 1,300 kW power, fresh water, sea water, air, CO2, LPG
  • Workshops of 1,975.40 m² and 7,825 m² with overhead, jib and hoist cranes and full utility supply
