Brødrene AA

Brødrene Aa is a Norwegian shipyard founded in 1947 that designs and builds high-speed passenger vessels in carbon fibre composite, including diesel, hybrid and all-electric ferries, sightseeing craft and autonomous passenger boats. Its product lines include the Aero fast ferry design, the Passenger series (20–45 m) and the Seasight sightseeing vessel, built to the IMO HSC 2000 code and classed by DNVGL, CRS and CCS. The company states it has built over 300 composite vessels since the 1970s, with more than 50 carbon fibre fast ferries delivered in Norway and abroad, including three Aero Highspeed vessels for Attica Group in Greece and the autonomous MF Estelle in Stockholm. Yards at Hyen and Eikefjord also handle service, repair, rebuilding and retrofit work, such as the hull lengthening and electric conversion of MS Baronessen.

Founded in 1947 by brothers Olav and Bertel Aa, Brødrene Aa is a Norwegian shipbuilder specialising in energy-efficient high-speed passenger vessels built in carbon fibre composite. The yard moved from mahogany leisure craft and wooden ferries to composites in the mid-1970s, delivered Surface Effect Ships in the 1980s, and re-entered the fast ferry market in the early 2000s with what it describes as the world's first commercial passenger vessel in carbon fibre. Carbon fibre sandwich construction reduces structural weight by around 40% compared with aluminium, cutting fuel consumption and emissions. The company keeps the full value chain in-house, including a team of some 30 engineers.
