Rauma Marine Constructions launched the second Pohjanmaa-class multi-purpose corvette for the Finnish Navy on 21 May. The vessel reached launch stage less than a year after keel laying, and all four Squadron 2020 vessels are now under construction.
Rauma Marine Constructions started production of the fourth Pohjanmaa-class multi-purpose corvette for the Finnish Navy on 14 January and laid the keel for the third vessel the same day. All four corvettes in the Squadron 2020 order are now under construction at the Rauma yard, alongside two U.S. icebreakers that are moving toward production start.
Rauma Marine Constructions used a roundtable this week to pitch electric ships and a new “energy as a service” model to shipping companies. The yard said the approach could cut investment in batteries and port charging infrastructure, while shortening delivery times by a third if ships are completed to launching stage in a factory.
Rauma Marine Constructions cut steel on the third of four Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvettes for the Finnish Navy on 26 August. Three of the Squadron 2020 vessels are now in production, and the first was launched in May 2025.
