The Port of Barcelona has approved a ten-year extension of MB92 Barcelona’s shipyard concession and a 4,000m² increase in yard area. MB92 said it will invest more than €40 million between 2026 and 2028 in quayside, dry dock and lifting upgrades, with work also under way on a further five-year extension to 2055.
MB92 Group has published its fifth industry report on how data, artificial intelligence and connected systems are changing yacht refit and operations. The yard said the biggest shift will come from “connected intelligence” rather than any single technology, with reliable data, interoperability, skills and cybersecurity needed to make it work.
MB92 Barcelona said Andrea Ros has expanded her remit from purchasing into logistics and customs after more than 15 years at the yard. The yard also pointed to its bonded warehouse status, introduced in 2020, and a new procurement account format used through its digital client portal, The Bridge by MB92.
MB92 La Ciotat has published interviews with four crew members working aboard yachts currently in its yard, including an intendant, a deckhand, a head of interior and a butler. The piece focuses on life aboard, long hours and the close-knit nature of crews rather than on any yard project or delivery.
MB92, Pinmar and BCN Port Innovation have opened a plastic recycling centre at MB92’s facilities in the Port of Barcelona. The 200 m² plant is expected to recover about 85% of refit waste and process more than 200 tonnes of plastic a year. The project follows more than 24 months of research within the PERTE Naval framework led by MB92 Barcelona.
MB92 La Ciotat said its HSE team identified non-compliant scaffolding during a heavy lifting operation to remove propellers and shafts, then worked with operators, the scaffolding team and project staff to modify the setup. The yard also said it collects and treats all rainwater from hardstanding areas on site and reports a 97% recovery rate for hazardous waste.
Squircle Capital has increased its stake in MB92 Group to 100%, after a series of earlier increases from 77.5% in 2019 to 93% in 2022 and 98% in 2025. MB92 said the move comes as it develops a five-year strategic and expansion plan.
Catherine Chabaud, France’s minister delegate for the sea and fisheries, visited La Ciotat Shipyards on Wednesday 4 February. She toured the yard, met MB92 and Exail representatives, and discussed refit decarbonisation, ballast-water treatment and maritime autonomy systems.
Núria Gazulla, Interiors Department Manager at MB92 Barcelona, described how her team handles superyacht refit and repair work, including a recent onboard oil painting protection case. She said the department works alongside project managers, engineers and contractors to translate client expectations into deliverables and manage interiors on complex projects.
La Ciotat Shipyards inaugurated the rehabilitated Nef B on 21 October with MB92 and the mayor present. The project cost €10.7 million in total, split between MB92 La Ciotat and La Ciotat Shipyards, with state support under the Fonds vert.
MB92 Group has appointed Remy Millott, chief executive of GYG Ltd., to its board as a non-executive member. He will keep his current role at GYG, which MB92 Group acquired earlier this year. MB92 also said its search for a new group chief executive is still under way.
MB92 La Ciotat said corrosion becomes a greater risk on superyachts after around five years in service, with early signs often subtle and easy to miss. François Gautier, the yard’s coatings department manager, said annual checks on tanks and other sensitive areas are needed even when no damage is visible.
