Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL) is an Indian shipbuilding and ship repair yard at Malpe, Udupi in Karnataka, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited. Originally incorporated in 1984 as Tebma Engineering Private Limited and later Tebma Shipyards Limited, it was acquired by CSL in September 2020 and renamed in April 2022. The yard builds tugs, coastal and dry cargo vessels, fishing vessels, aluminium-hulled ferries and auxiliary defence craft, and also undertakes ship repair and engineering fabrication projects. Operations span facilities at Malpe, Hangarkatte and Baputhota in Karnataka, with a registered office in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, and project activity at Kochi and Chengalpattu.

Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL) is a government company and wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited, based at the Malpe Harbour Complex in Udupi, Karnataka. Incorporated in 1984 as Tebma Engineering Private Limited and subsequently Tebma Shipyards Limited, the company was taken over by CSL in September 2020 through an order of the NCLT, Chennai, and renamed in April 2022. Its stated mission is to build and repair tug boats, specialised fishing vessels and special purpose ships of up to 80 metres in length to international standards, and it aims to become the country's market leader in aluminium hull construction.

Facilities

  • Malpe – 55,000 sqm hull erection and launching facility; 165 m x 46 m covered shed with 30 m clear height, allowing up to four midsize vessels simultaneously; 4,000 sqm open bay; 128 m x 35 m wet basin for outfit and commissioning; humidity-controlled marine coating shop; transfer bay and winch-assisted cradle system for launching vessels up to 90 m x 20 m and 3,500 T launching weight
  • Hangarkatte – 25,000 sqm steel preparation and block fabrication facility, 1,200 T per month capacity, two plasma cutting machines, 275 T and 375 T bending machines, template cutting machine and 13 cranes handling blocks up to 50 T
  • Baputhota – approx. 4,000 m warehouse and stores with 8 T EOT cranes, plus materials, contract cell, finance and admin offices
