Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited (GBSL) is a ship repair facility established in Freeport, Grand Bahama in 1999 as part of a plan to develop a maritime centre on the island. The yard describes itself as the largest ship repair facility in the Caribbean, capable of docking any type of seagoing vessel up to 300 m in length, and states it services an average of 100 cruise and commercial vessels annually at around 92% occupancy. GBSL says it is ISPS compliant and in compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 45001:18 and ISO 14001.

Services

  • Dry-docking and afloat repairs, refits, refurbishments and revitalizations
  • Steel and aluminium fabrication, welding and fitting for new construction, repairs and retrofits
  • Pipe work in cuni, stainless steel, carbon and GF+ pipes, using LRQA certified pipe welders

  • Mechanical services including machining, engine, pump and valve overhauls; thruster repairs in dry-dock or underwater; azipod repair team

  • UTM hull structure gauging, class approved by ABS, BV, DNV-GL and LR (ASNT Level II certified)
  • Tank cleaning (ballast, fuel, fresh water, slops, void spaces)
  • Ballast water treatment system (BWTS) installations
  • Project management, detailed planning and scheduling, logistics, customs clearing and brokerage
  • On-staff certified naval architects and engineers for workshop and fabrication drawings

Facilities

  • Floating dry-docks with lifting capacity of 45,000+ tonnes, docking vessels up to 300 m (985 ft)
  • Dock cranes: 2 x wingwall cranes to 40 tonnes at 59 m above pontoon deck; 1 x crane to 18 tonnes at 88 m
  • 1 km of deep water berth at 14 m depth, with shoreside cranes to 64 tonnes at quayside
  • 35,000 ft² workshop for steel, aluminium and pipe fabrication
  • Mechanical machining shop, electrical shop with rewind and baking ovens
  • LNG clean room for pump and valve overhaul, clean room for thruster overhaul
  • Dedicated lifeboat and tender repair area
