Ferus Smit Leer GmbH is the German yard of the Ferus Smit shipbuilding group, located on Industriestraße in Leer. The group specialises in commercial cargo vessels that it designs and builds entirely in-house, producing 5 to 8 seagoing ships per year between roughly 2,500 and 30,000 tdwt across its yards in Leer (Germany) and Westerbroek (Netherlands). Recent newbuildings launched at Leer include Ecobox XL general cargo/project vessels for ForestWave Navigation and R-Class product tankers for Erik Thun AB / Thun Tankers.

Ferus Smit Leer GmbH operates the German shipyard of the Ferus Smit group, which specialises in the design and construction of commercial cargo ships. The company states that it designs and builds its complete products 100% independently, covering concept development, design and R&D aimed at lower fuel consumption and higher cargo intake, 3D "Virtual Ship" modelling, steel processing, prefabrication, assembly, sideways launching, sea trials and delivery. Vessel Types
- Ecobox and Ecobox XL open-top general cargo / project cargo vessels, designed for extra long items such as windmill blades — approx. 12,500 dwt, 18 m beam, movable tweendeck, two 85 t cranes, Ice Class 1A, Tier III and Green Passport, ORC waste heat generator and 3,300 kW main engine (built for ForestWave Navigation; the Ecobox series was built for Symphony Shipping)
- R-Class product tankers for Erik Thun AB / Thun Tankers — 7,999 dwt, 9,700 m³ in 10 coated cargo tanks, Loa 115 m, B 15.9 m, draft 6.95 m, Ice Class 1A, 1,950 kW main engine, suited to year-round Baltic service
- Trollmax general cargo bulkers (mk 4) dimensioned for the Trollhättan canal locks — Ice Class 1B, Loa 89 m, 5,100 dwt max, hybrid battery pack, nozzled propeller
- Self-unloading bulk carriers with scraper and conveyor systems for heavy bulk cargoes
