Astillero LEF

sailboat builder San Fernando, Provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina

Astillero LEF is an Argentine boatyard founded in 1986 that designs and series-builds fiberglass composite sailing yachts for cruising and racing. The yard reports more than 350 boats delivered in various lengths, all built in its own facilities using proprietary construction methods it calls the "Integral Composite System" and "Matrixmatic", which mould hull, deck, interior and understructure as a single one-piece assembly without mechanical hull-to-deck joints. Current models mentioned include the LEF 25 Visión, the LEF 31 (successor to the LEF 30, of which 80 units were built) and the IM 17. The yard is located in San Fernando, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.

Services

  • Design and series construction of composite sailing yachts
  • In-house "Integral Composite System": boats moulded as a single piece, eliminating the traditional mechanical hull-to-deck joint and avoiding screws and rigid polyester fillers in that area
  • "Matrixmatic" process: simultaneous in-mould construction and assembly of the four main modules — hull, interiors, deck and underdeck — with structures and load-bearing fittings laminated between successive layers
  • Modular joinery built off the boat in the customer's choice of wood and paint finish, then fitted and bonded aboard without on-board adjustment
  • Customisation through specialist subcontracting of individual elements, aimed at shorter build times and wider client choice

Facilities

  • Moulding tooling that can be rotated 360° on its longitudinal axis and suspended above floor level for access in any working position
  • Contact-flange moulds with non-deformable structure to fix interior positioning and keep dimensions identical across a production series
  • Gelcoat finishing of lockers and interior spaces within the mould

Vessel Types

  • Cruiser-racer sailing yachts in sandwich composite construction
  • LEF 25 Visión — second-generation 26-foot design with 9/10 sail plan, 106% headsail, cockpit-centralised halyards and controls, twin swept spreaders at 27°, and the "Minimal Net" interior for six crew
  • LEF 31 — evolution of the LEF 30 (80 units built), with asymmetric, ergonomic layout and Minimal Net interior
  • IM 17 — smaller boat aimed at river, lake and lagoon sailing and fishing
