Orskov Yard completed a 50-day technical and interior refurbishment of Hurtigruten’s MS Midnatsol this spring. The work covered 243 passenger cabins, several public spaces and major technical systems, including the propulsion shaft system, thrusters, gearboxes, stabilizers and a new ballast water treatment system.
Orskov Yard in Frederikshavn hosted a primary school class from Frydenstrandskolen for a visit that included a first-time look inside one of the yard’s floating docks. Christina Ørskov said the aim was to give the pupils realistic insight into jobs in the maritime industry and make the path into shipyard work feel less daunting.
Orskov Yard has welcomed the Canadian fishing vessel Sivulliq from Baffin Fisheries for a 25-year class renewal, major engine overhaul, propeller refurbishment and other maintenance work. The vessel crossed more than 3,000 nautical miles to reach Frederikshavn for the refit.
DC Orisant recently docked at Orskov Yard for steelwork, engine installations, electrical repairs and safety system maintenance. The vessel’s captain, Dave van de Gruiter, said tight planning and short turnaround times are critical during dry dock work.
Orskov Yard staff marked Football Shirt Friday by wearing football shirts to support the Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation. The yard said it donated 10,000 DKK to the charity, and project manager Henrik Poulsen wore a Frederikshavn FI first-team shirt from 1979.
M/S Vesterålen, owned by Hurtigruten, became the 100th vessel to enter Dock 5 at Orskov Yard on 26 February. The floating dock, inaugurated in 2021, was built at Turkish HAT-SAN Shipyard and measures 180 metres by 30 metres by 8.5 metres.
Orskov Yard said it had 37 apprentices among nearly 200 blue-collar workers by the end of 2025, its highest number to date. The figure is above the yard’s target of keeping at least 10% of its workforce in training programmes. The yard also said its Maritime Apprenticeship Program now involves 10 companies and 70 active apprentices.
Orskov Yard reported revenue of DKK 914 million for 2024-25, up from DKK 808 million a year earlier and its fourth straight annual record. Profit before tax reached DKK 121 million, the yard’s second-best result ever.
Orskov Yard is converting 500 square meters on the first floor of a building in the northern part of its yard into office space above the workshop area. The project will include five inspector offices, 16 workstations for staff and two meeting rooms that can be joined into one conference space.
Orskov Yard said it will continue to strengthen its ship repair, maintenance and conversion business in the year ahead. The yard also said it will keep investing in its facilities and people, while increasing its focus on QHSE and sustainability.
Orskov Yard said it kept its docks and workshops running at full capacity in 2025, driven by customer demand and work from its employees and partners. The yard said it delivered complex projects during the year, but the source did not name any vessels, owners or contract values.
Orskov Yard’s co-owner foundation has given its annual Apprenticeship Award to Frederik Borg and Magnus Koldkjær Larsen. Each apprentice received a DKK 40,000 grant. The yard said the award recognises commitment, professionalism and teamwork.
