Neorion Syros Shipyards

Neorion Syros Shipyards is the historic Greek yard at Ermoupolis on Syros island, founded in 1861 and operated since 2018 under the management of ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group. It serves as the Group's Aegean platform for ship repair, upgrading and conversion work, with the yard credited with around 100 vessels maintained or repaired each year out of more than 300 across the two ONEX yards. Facilities include two floating dry docks with adjustable side blocks and services, plus repair berths, quays and wharfs. Within the wider ONEX ecosystem the Syros yard also supports newbuilding, green retrofit programmes such as ballast water treatment, scrubbers, shaft generators and carbon capture, and naval and defence-related work.

Neorion Syros Shipyards

Founded in Ermoupolis in 1861, Neorion Syros Shipyards is described as one of the oldest Greek heavy industries and the starting point of modern Greek shipbuilding. ONEX Group assumed management of the yard in 2018, restarting operations and beginning a long-term modernisation programme that repositioned Syros as a ship repair and industrial hub in the Eastern Mediterranean. Together with the Group's Elefsis yard it forms a dual-yard network, with Syros accounting for roughly 100 of the 300-plus vessels maintained and repaired annually across both sites.

  • Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) for handling up to 3,500 t (Group capability)
  • Group shipbuilding berth of 200 m x 55 m for vessels up to 100,000 DWT, served by a 400 t gantry crane
  • Planned establishment of a technical school in Syros for workforce training
  • A digitisation hub, one of four ONEX hubs in Greece
