Elefsis Shipbuilding & Industrial Enterprises S.A.
Elefsis Shipbuilding & Industrial Enterprises S.A. (Elefsis Shipyards) is a full-service Greek shipyard in Elefsis Bay, about 10 nautical miles from the Piraeus anchorage, operating since October 1969 on a 250,000 sq m site with 56,000 sq m under cover. It handles newbuilding, ship repair, conversion and offshore work, docking around 120 ships a year and having repaired over a thousand vessels since 1997. Newbuilding output includes the passenger ferry Nissos Chios, open-type RoRo coastal ferries, aluminium customs patrol craft, a special-purpose DP platform vessel, and Hellenic Navy units such as Vosper Thornycroft-design fast attack craft, the support ship Promitheus and Jason-class landing ships. The yard also carries out major conversion and upgrading work on semi-submersible drilling rigs and offshore energy structures.
Elefsis Shipbuilding & Industrial Enterprises S.A.
Construction of the yard began in 1962 and operations commenced in October 1969, since when it has grown into one of the larger shipyards in the Mediterranean. Under management installed in 1997, more than EUR 50 million has been invested in upgrading facilities and introducing new technologies, particularly for naval programmes. The yard states a permanent staff of around 900 (approx. 630 in production; the Greek-language page cites around 600 with 430 in production), with capacity for up to 2,500 people at peak periods, supported by vetted subcontractors from the Athens/Piraeus area and an in-house vocational training centre. Around 70% of its clientele is non-Greek, and large jobs are run on a dedicated "Project Team" basis.
