Fraser Industries signed a memorandum of understanding on July 31 with the American Great Lakes Ports Association and the Great Lakes Alliance of Shipyards. The agreement was described as the first formal partnership between the U.S. Great Lakes port and shipyard communities.

The agreement covers work from yard diagnosis and layout design to robotics, automation, digital systems and workforce development, with Fraser Shipyards in Superior, Wisconsin, named as a demonstration model.
The 678-foot S/S Wilfred Sykes left Fraser Shipyards in Superior, Wisconsin, this past weekend after hull repairs and other work. Fraser said Central Marine Logistics again chose the yard for the vessel.
Fraser Shipyards has put a new Link-Belt RTC-80130 crane into service after receiving it through a MARAD Small Shipyard Grant. The yard said the crane went straight to work on repairs to the Kaye E. Barker after delivery and training.
The 678-foot SS Wilfred Sykes arrived at Fraser Shipyards in Superior, Wisconsin, on June 8 for hull repairs and a round of maintenance. The 1949 steamer left the yard on July 21 after the work was completed. Fraser said the vessel had not been back in its dry dock since 1982.

Fraser Shipyards has delivered the MV Niigaan Enaazhek, a 36-car, double-ended roll-on roll-off ferry, to the Beausoleil First Nation. The ice-strengthened vessel will run between Christian Island and Cedar Point, Ontario, with 12 daily round trips and year-round service. The ferry was built in Superior, Wisconsin, and is fitted with two Voith Schneider Propellers and an Ice Class 1A rating.
