Port Whangarei Marine Centre has marked 10 years since its first vessel was hauled out on the new 100-tonne travel lift, with the hardstand now operating at full capacity in the summer peak. The centre says it began first haul-out operations on 6 November 2015 and opened officially a month later after a $3 million Stage I development.
Port Whangarei Marine Centre says it has been drawing more sailing catamarans for haulout and maintenance as multihull fleets grow. The yard says its two travel lifts handle beams up to 13.5 metres, with hardstand and 20 metre-wide refit sheds available for larger jobs.
Port Whangarei Marine Centre said its haulout work has stayed strong despite the loss of its usual summer influx of foreign vessels. The yard is using a 100-tonne travel lift now, with a new 560-tonne lift from Cimolai in Italy due soon.
