General Dynamics NASSCO christened and launched the USNS Thurgood Marshall (T-AO 211) in San Diego on 4 June. The ship is the seventh vessel in the U.S. Navy’s T-AO fleet oiler program and the fourth still under construction at the yard, which has already delivered five ships in the class.
General Dynamics NASSCO has received $856 million in funding to build T-AO 217, a John Lewis-class fleet replenishment oiler for the U.S. Navy. The ship is part of the yard’s current block buy contract for up to eight additional oilers, T-AO 214 through 221.
General Dynamics NASSCO, DSEC Co. and Samsung Heavy Industries have signed a tri-party memorandum of agreement to work together on ship design and manufacturing automation in the U.S. market. The companies said the tie-up will cover commercial, naval and other government programs, including the U.S. Navy’s Next Generation Logistics Ship. NASSCO said it has delivered more than 150 vessels since the 1950s and is building the 20-ship John Lewis-class fleet oiler program.
General Dynamics NASSCO has been awarded $1.7 billion to build T-AO 215 and T-AO 216 for the U.S. Navy. The ships are part of the yard’s current multi-ship contract for up to eight additional John Lewis-class fleet replenishment oilers, T-AO 214 through 221. The first four ships in the program have already been delivered, and five more are under construction at the San Diego yard.
General Dynamics NASSCO christened and launched the USNS Sojourner Truth (T-AO 210) for the U.S. Navy on 25 April. The 746-foot fleet oiler is the sixth ship in the T-AO program and the first four ships in the class have already been delivered.
General Dynamics NASSCO christened and launched the USNS Lucy Stone (T-AO 209) for the U.S. Navy on September 21. The 742-foot ship is the fifth vessel in the John Lewis-class fleet oiler program, which now has a new Navy contract for up to eight more ships.
