Davie Defense has finalised a $3.5B contract with the United States Coast Guard for five Arctic Security Cutters, moving the program from the February letter contract into execution. The first vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2028.

Helsinki Shipyard will build two of the five vessels in collaboration with Sata Shipbuilding. The other three will be built at the group’s Gulf Copper facilities in Texas, and construction of the first vessel is due to start in the coming summer at the Helsinki and Pori shipyards.

The program runs through 2035. Davie said the ASC design is based on a proven platform developed and delivered at the yard.

“This marks a major milestone in the ASC program. The finalized contract for these five vessels will significantly strengthen the U.S. Coast Guard’s capabilities,” said Mika Heiskanen, CEO of Davie Shipyards in Finland.

Heiskanen said the first vessel is due in 2028.
