Helsinki Shipyard has expanded its design operation in Turku to more than 40 professionals. It opened the office in 2024, less than two years ago. The company said the city-centre hub now covers machinery, HVAC, electrical, interior, hull and deck outfitting design, including basic and detail engineering.
From Turku, design director Arttu Stenberg leads a design organisation of around 160 people. The group, Helsinki Shipyard said, is supporting operations across Finland, Canada and the United States as part of a five-yard network.
Turku role
Stenberg said the Turku office had integrated faster than expected. He recalled that the move followed an offer in 2024 to establish the new office in his hometown.
“Honestly, it exceeded all our expectations,” Stenberg said.
There is a strong order base for the coming years, the yard said. The design organisation is still growing. Engineers joining now would have a chance to influence how the work is done, it also said.
